We are excited to have East End Robotics hosted by Varina Library. My name is Vida Williams, I’ve lived in the Varina District for almost 20 years, raising three sons in our community.
We founded EAST END ROBOTICS Summer 2016, and waited patiently for Varina Library to be completed as our new home. Our goal is to provide a safe space for youth curiosity and invention to run wild. We wanted to choose a home that would be welcoming to all students, no matter there scholastic affiliation. We wanted a home that could enable us to allow students with interest with no educational pre-requisites.
As such we welcome students from grades 7 to 12 to join our monthly meetings. We are using the next 10 months to teach the kids foundation skills that would enable them to compete as teams in national competitions starting October 2017. They will learning fundamentals in programming, electronics, drafting/CAD, and basic mechanics. We will teach these skill sets in a cross-curricular, peer-learning, experiential environment with value system of human design and ecological sustainability.
We plan our first major fundraising event in the Spring 2017. Please stay tuned for more information.
